The Story Behind This Platform

I Came to Dubai as a Bartender. This is What I Learned.

Relocate Dubai Hub was not built by a consultant or a visa broker. It was built by someone who moved to Dubai, worked the floor, listened to the people who had already figured it out, and decided to write it all down.

The Real Story

I moved from South Africa to Dubai in 2022. Not as an entrepreneur, not as a corporate expat with a relocation package, and not with a business plan tucked under my arm. I came as a bartender, looking for something different, somewhere with more opportunity, somewhere the sun actually worked in your favour.

What I did not expect was the education that came with the job. Behind a bar in Dubai, you meet everyone. Business owners, founders, finance professionals, families who had just arrived and families who had been here for fifteen years. Night after night, the same questions kept coming up, and the same frustrations. How do I get a Golden Visa? What is the difference between a free zone and mainland? Can I keep my UK property if I move here? What does it actually cost to live here properly, not the number on a real estate website?

I started answering those questions because I had been asking them myself. I spent months navigating confusing visa rules, contradictory advice online, and content that was clearly written to get you to sign up for something rather than actually help you understand your situation. I read everything I could find, talked to lawyers, accountants, business setup consultants, and expats who had been through it all. Gradually, the picture became clearer.

The problem was the information itself. Scattered. Outdated. Written by people with something to sell. There was no single, honest, UK-specific guide that walked you through the whole picture, from visa to bank account to school fees, without trying to convert you into a lead for someone's consultancy.

So I built one.

What This Platform Is

Relocate Dubai Hub is an independent knowledge platform written specifically for UK residents considering a move to Dubai. Every guide on this site is based on real experience, real conversations, and real research. Not theory.

The topics I cover, visas, business setup, banking and tax, cost of living, education, healthcare, and legal, are exactly the topics that came up most in those conversations, and in the years since. These are the things people were confused about, worried about, and making expensive mistakes on because the right information simply was not easy to find.

I am not a lawyer, an accountant, or a visa consultant. I am someone who did the research so you do not have to start from zero. Where professional advice is needed, I will always say so and point you toward someone who can actually help.

On Affiliate Links

Some pages on this site include referral links to third-party services, things like business setup consultancies, insurance providers, and currency transfer platforms. These are clearly signposted. Where I recommend something, it is because I have either used it, heard consistently good things about it from people I trust, or evaluated it as a genuinely useful option for the situation.

Affiliate relationships do not influence what I write. The guides exist to be useful, not to funnel you toward whatever pays the highest commission.

Have a Question?

I cannot give professional legal or tax advice, but if you are not sure where to start or what applies to your situation, get in touch and I will do my best to point you in the right direction.
